The single biggest driver of barndominium engineering cost is what the metal-building manufacturer provides. When the manufacturer supplies sealed structural calculations, frame reactions, frame design and anchor-bolt requirements, PEC’s scope can often be limited to foundation engineering and coordination. When the manufacturer provides only a shell — or no engineering at all — PEC must design or verify the primary structure, which increases the engineering scope and fee.
